What it costs

Detroit to Fort Lauderdale, priced by aircraft size

Estimated prices for the whole aircraft from Pontiac, including the 7.5% federal excise tax, at September 2026 rates. They assume an aircraft based in Michigan on an ordinary date; peak weeks run higher and a repositioning leg runs lower. Our advisory fee is a separate line on top.

Aircraft sizeTypical aircraftComfortableFlying timeOne way
Light jet Phenom 300E, Citation CJ3+ 4–6 2h 50m $16,000–$24,000
Midsize Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP, Learjet 60 6 2h 45m $17,500–$29,500
Super-midsize Challenger 350, Citation Latitude 7–8 2h 40m $26,500–$39,000

A one-way range is wide because it depends on how much of the aircraft’s empty flight home the operator charges. Staying a few days? Send both dates: the return is priced both ways, and often costs less per hour than two separate one-ways. How these numbers are built.

On this route. Comparable to Palm Beach. The bigger variable is which airport you use and whether the aircraft can stay or has to reposition.

Want the real number? The form above already has PTK to FXE filled in. Add a date and the passenger count and you get actual aircraft, the operator’s price and our fee on separate lines.

PTK FXE

Oakland County International (PTK) to Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) — about 1,002 nautical miles and 2h 45m in a midsize jet.

The route

Which airport, and why it matters

Fort Lauderdale Executive is the general aviation field and it is closer to most of where people are going than the international airport. Hollywood International handles private traffic too, but you share it with a major airline operation and the ground time reflects that.

01

Executive over International

FXE is the private field, with multiple FBOs and no airline traffic to work around. FLL is the better answer only when you need customs at an unusual hour or a commercial connection on the same trip.

02

Season

Same December-to-April pattern as Palm Beach. Book early and expect parking to be the constraint rather than the aircraft.

03

Runway

FXE is shorter than the international airport. Comfortable for midsize aircraft, worth confirming for anything large-cabin with a full load.

Aircraft

What I would quote for this trip

Three starting points rather than a catalog. Which one fits depends on how many of you there are and what you are carrying — the baggage and runway comparison sets out the numbers for thirty-four aircraft.

Citation XLS+

Comfortable at FXE with six aboard and a week of luggage. Eight fits, with the bench in use and the hold full.

Phenom 300E

Short runway ability and the largest light-jet hold. Well suited to the smaller field.

Challenger 350

When the group is eight with clubs and the extra cabin is worth the cost.

Prices for each size are in the cost table above.

Send the route and the bag list. You will get real aircraft, the operating carrier named, and the full cost split into the operator’s price and my fee.

Coming back

Fort Lauderdale to Detroit

The return is the same trip in reverse, and it is often where the better pricing sits. We arrange Fort Lauderdale to Detroit and Fort Lauderdale to Pontiac as readily as the outbound — you do not need to be in Michigan to book it.

Two things make the northbound leg worth asking about separately. An aircraft that flew someone south has to get home, and an operator would rather sell that leg than fly it empty. Those repositioning flights run in both directions on this corridor and commonly price 30% to 60% below the equivalent charter.

The second is that a one-way usually pays for the aircraft to reposition anyway. If you are going out and back within a few days, quoting it as a round trip often costs less per hour than two separate one-ways, because the aircraft stays with you instead of making four legs.

Either way, send both directions when you ask. Quoting the outbound alone hides the cheaper version of the same trip.

Nearby airports worth pricing

  • Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood (FLL)
  • Miami Opa-locka (OPF)
  • Boca Raton (BCT)
  • Pompano Beach (PMP)

Often cheaper, quieter, or closer to where you are actually staying. Worth pricing alongside Fort Lauderdale Executive rather than instead of it.

Questions

Detroit to Fort Lauderdale

How long is the flight from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale?

About 2h 45m in a midsize jet. The distance from Oakland County International (PTK) in Pontiac to Fort Lauderdale Executive is roughly 1,002 nautical miles, which is nonstop for every aircraft we would normally quote on this route. Whether it is nonstop with your group and your luggage on your date is the question worth asking, because payload and winds both move that answer.

What does a private jet from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale cost?

One way in a midsize jet, roughly $17,500–$29,500 including federal excise tax, at September 2026 rates. Comparable to Palm Beach. The bigger variable is which airport you use and whether the aircraft can stay or has to reposition.

Which airport should I fly from in Michigan?

Oakland County International (PTK) in Pontiac is the default for most of Southeast Michigan — the second busiest airport in the state, no airline terminal, and customs on the field. Willow Run and Detroit Metro both work, and Bishop International in Flint suits anyone north or west of the metro. The right answer is usually whichever is closest to your door.

Can I fly into a smaller airport near Fort Lauderdale?

Often, and it is worth asking. Alternatives on this route include Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood (FLL), Miami Opa-locka (OPF), Boca Raton (BCT). The constraint is runway length and the aircraft’s performance on the day. Give us the address you are actually going to rather than the airport you assume you need.

Do you arrange Fort Lauderdale to Detroit as well?

Yes. We arrange Fort Lauderdale to Detroit and Fort Lauderdale to Pontiac exactly as readily as the outbound, and you do not need to be in Michigan to book it. The northbound leg is also where repositioning flights show up most often, since aircraft that carried someone south have to get home. Send both directions and we will price the round trip against two one-ways, which frequently costs less per hour.

Who operates the flight?

An FAA-certificated Part 135 air carrier. YAJ Jet Charter is an air charter broker — not a direct air carrier, and not in operational control of any aircraft. The operating carrier is named to you, with its certificate and insurance verified, before you sign anything.
