What it costs

Detroit to Stuart, priced by aircraft size

Estimated prices for the whole aircraft from Pontiac, including the 7.5% federal excise tax, at September 2026 rates. They assume an aircraft based in Michigan on an ordinary date; peak weeks run higher and a repositioning leg runs lower. Our advisory fee is a separate line on top.

Aircraft sizeTypical aircraftComfortableFlying timeOne way
Light jet Phenom 300E, Citation CJ3+ 4–6 2h 40m $15,000–$22,500
Midsize Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP, Learjet 60 6 2h 35m $16,500–$27,500
Super-midsize Challenger 350, Citation Latitude 7–8 2h 30m $25,000–$36,500

A one-way range is wide because it depends on how much of the aircraft’s empty flight home the operator charges. Staying a few days? Send both dates: the return is priced both ways, and often costs less per hour than two separate one-ways. How these numbers are built.

On this route. Slightly shorter than Palm Beach and priced much the same for the same aircraft. The bigger variable is season: December through April is when this corridor is busiest from Pontiac, and when aircraft, crews and ramp space all tighten at once.

Oakland County International (PTK) to Witham Field (SUA) — about 943 nautical miles and 2h 35m in a midsize jet.

The route

What Stuart asks of the schedule

Witham Field is a county-owned general aviation airport with a control tower, three runways and two FBOs, about 30 nautical miles north of Palm Beach International. The longest runway is 5,828 ft, which takes every midsize jet we would normally quote on this route. What shapes the trip is not runway length but the rules that come with a field surrounded by noise-sensitive neighborhoods. It has also become the practical alternative when presidential flight restrictions are in place over Palm Beach.

01

Voluntary curfew, 11pm to 7am

Martin County asks all aircraft to stay off the field overnight, with exceptions only for air ambulance, rescue and government flights. It is voluntary, but operators respect it and the schedule should too. Leave Pontiac much after 8pm and you land inside it.

02

Noise abatement on every departure

The airport runs a voluntary noise abatement program and has adopted the NBAA close-in departure procedure, which operators fly as standard. It changes nothing in the cabin, but it is why Witham watches late and loud operations closely.

03

Large-cabin aircraft need checking

Taxiways here restrict aircraft with wingspans over 79 ft, and anything heavier than the runways are rated for needs prior permission. Neither affects a midsize jet. Both matter if the group is big enough to be looking at a Gulfstream or a Global, so the specific aircraft gets confirmed with the airport before the quote is final.

04

Customs on site, part of the week

Witham has its own US Customs facility, open Monday and Thursday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm, and closed Tuesday and Wednesday, with user fees set by aircraft size. That makes Stuart a practical last stop before the Bahamas and a practical first stop on the way home, provided the day is right.

Aircraft

What I would quote for this trip

Three starting points rather than a catalog. Which one fits depends on how many of you there are and what you are carrying — the baggage and runway comparison sets out the numbers for thirty-four aircraft.

Citation XLS+

Six aboard with a week of luggage and runway to spare. About 90 cubic feet of hold and roughly 3,560 ft to take off.

Phenom 300E

Six or seven traveling lighter. The largest hold in the light class and the most economical way to do this trip nonstop.

Hawker 900XP

The most common jet at Pontiac, and Witham’s longest runway is enough for it. The catch is a hold of roughly 50 cubic feet, so it suits a group traveling light rather than a family going down for the season.

Prices for each size are in the cost table above.

Coming back

Stuart to Detroit

The return is the same trip in reverse, and it is often where the better pricing sits. We arrange Stuart to Detroit and Stuart to Pontiac as readily as the outbound — you do not need to be in Michigan to book it.

Two things make the northbound leg worth asking about separately. An aircraft that flew someone south has to get home, and an operator would rather sell that leg than fly it empty. Those repositioning flights run in both directions on this corridor and commonly price 30% to 60% below the equivalent charter.

The second is that a one-way usually pays for the aircraft to reposition anyway. If you are going out and back within a few days, quoting it as a round trip often costs less per hour than two separate one-ways, because the aircraft stays with you instead of making four legs.

Either way, send both directions when you ask. Quoting the outbound alone hides the cheaper version of the same trip.

Nearby airports worth pricing

  • Palm Beach (DJT, formerly PBI)
  • North Palm Beach County (F45)
  • Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce (FPR)
  • Vero Beach (VRB)

Often cheaper, quieter, or closer to where you are actually staying. Worth pricing alongside Witham Field rather than instead of it.

Questions

Detroit to Stuart

How long is the flight from Detroit to Stuart?

About 2h 35m in a midsize jet. The distance from Oakland County International (PTK) in Pontiac to Witham Field is roughly 943 nautical miles, which is nonstop for every aircraft we would normally quote on this route. Whether it is nonstop with your group and your luggage on your date is the question worth asking, because payload and winds both move that answer.

What does a private jet from Detroit to Stuart cost?

One way in a midsize jet, roughly $16,500–$27,500 including federal excise tax, at September 2026 rates. Slightly shorter than Palm Beach and priced much the same for the same aircraft. The bigger variable is season: December through April is when this corridor is busiest from Pontiac, and when aircraft, crews and ramp space all tighten at once.

Which airport should I fly from in Michigan?

Oakland County International (PTK) in Pontiac is the default for most of Southeast Michigan — the second busiest airport in the state, no airline terminal, and customs on the field. Willow Run and Detroit Metro both work, and Bishop International in Flint suits anyone north or west of the metro. The right answer is usually whichever is closest to your door.

Can I fly into a smaller airport near Stuart?

Often, and it is worth asking. Alternatives on this route include Palm Beach (DJT, formerly PBI), North Palm Beach County (F45), Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce (FPR). The constraint is runway length and the aircraft’s performance on the day. Give us the address you are actually going to rather than the airport you assume you need.

Do you arrange Stuart to Detroit as well?

Yes. We arrange Stuart to Detroit and Stuart to Pontiac exactly as readily as the outbound, and you do not need to be in Michigan to book it. The northbound leg is also where repositioning flights show up most often, since aircraft that carried someone south have to get home. Send both directions and we will price the round trip against two one-ways, which frequently costs less per hour.

Who operates the flight?

An FAA-certificated Part 135 air carrier. YAJ Jet Charter is an air charter broker — not a direct air carrier, and not in operational control of any aircraft. The operating carrier is named to you, with its certificate and insurance verified, before you sign anything.
