Private jet charter from Detroit to Indianapolis
An hour in the air, and one of the most flown routes out of Pontiac. Mostly business, with two weekends a year when every Michigan aircraft seems to be going the same way: the Indy 500 in May, and the Big Ten championship in December.
Distances and block times are planning figures, not booking promises.
No cost, no obligation. Send the trip and the bag list and you will get aircraft options, the operating carrier named, and all-in pricing before you decide.

Detroit to Indianapolis, priced by aircraft size
Estimated prices for the whole aircraft from Pontiac, including the 7.5% federal excise tax, at September 2026 rates. They assume an aircraft based in Michigan on an ordinary date; peak weeks run higher and a repositioning leg runs lower. Our advisory fee is a separate line on top.
| Aircraft size | Typical aircraft | Comfortable | Flying time | One way | Same-day round trip |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turboprop | Pilatus PC-12, King Air 350 | 4–6 | 1h 15m | $4,500–$7,000 | $5,500–$7,500 |
| Light jet | Phenom 300E, Citation CJ3+ | 4–6 | 1h 00m | $7,500–$9,500 | $8,000–$9,500 |
| Midsize | Citation XLS+, Hawker 900XP, Learjet 60 | 6 | 1h 00m | $8,500–$12,000 | $8,500–$12,000 |
On a trip this short, one way and a same-day round trip cost about the same: most operators bill a two-hour daily minimum, and you pay for the aircraft’s flight home either way, so you may as well come back in it. How these numbers are built.

What decides the trip
At 220 nautical miles almost anything flies this, so the aircraft is rarely the hard part. What decides the trip is which Indianapolis airport you use, whether the aircraft waits for a same-day return, and whether your dates fall on one of the city’s big event weekends.
Indianapolis International for downtown and the Speedway
Three long runways, two FBOs, a tower that never closes, and customs. It takes any aircraft at any hour, and it is the closer field for downtown, Lucas Oil Stadium and the Motor Speedway.
Indianapolis Executive (TYQ) for Carmel, Zionsville and Fishers
A 7,001 ft runway on the north side, owned by the Hamilton County Airport Authority. If the meeting or the house is north of I-465, landing here instead of at the international airport can take a long stretch of interstate out of the day.
Race weekend and title game weekend
Memorial Day weekend brings the Indy 500, and early December brings the Big Ten Football Championship to Lucas Oil Stadium, contracted there through 2028. Both fill every ramp in the area. If Michigan or Michigan State makes the title game, book the moment it is confirmed, because every other Michigan fan with access to an aircraft will be doing the same.
A short leg changes the economics
Many operators bill a daily minimum however short the flight, so an hour each way is often priced as more. A same-day round trip with the aircraft waiting usually beats two one-ways, and a turboprop gets you there roughly fifteen minutes later for noticeably less.
What I would quote for this trip
Three starting points rather than a catalog. Which one fits depends on how many of you there are and what you are carrying — the baggage and runway comparison sets out the numbers for thirty-four aircraft.
Citation CJ3+ or Phenom 300E
The efficient answer for four to six. A light jet is all an hour-long leg needs, and it uses either Indianapolis airport without a second thought.
Pilatus PC-12
Turboprop economics on a leg this short, six to nine seats and a large cargo door. The honest value choice for a day trip where the fifteen minutes do not matter.
Citation XLS+
When the group is seven or eight, or when it is race weekend and the cabin is where you will be spending the waiting time either side of the traffic. An hour is short enough that a full cabin is no hardship.
Prices for each size are in the cost table above.

Get aircraft optionsIndianapolis to Detroit
The return is the same trip in reverse, and it is often where the better pricing sits. We arrange Indianapolis to Detroit and Indianapolis to Pontiac as readily as the outbound — you do not need to be in Michigan to book it.
Two things make the return worth asking about separately. An aircraft that brought someone to Indianapolis has to get home, and an operator would rather sell that leg than fly it empty. When one lines up with your dates, a repositioning flight commonly prices 30% to 60% below the equivalent charter.
The second is that a one-way usually pays for the aircraft to reposition anyway. If you are going out and back within a few days, quoting it as a round trip often costs less per hour than two separate one-ways, because the aircraft stays with you instead of making four legs.
Either way, send both directions when you ask. Quoting the outbound alone hides the cheaper version of the same trip.

Detroit to Indianapolis
How long is the flight from Detroit to Indianapolis?
About 1h 00m in a midsize jet. The distance from Oakland County International (PTK) in Pontiac to Indianapolis International is roughly 220 nautical miles, which is nonstop for every aircraft we would normally quote on this route. Whether it is nonstop with your group and your luggage on your date is the question worth asking, because payload and winds both move that answer.
What does a private jet from Detroit to Indianapolis cost?
One way in a midsize jet, roughly $8,500–$12,000 including federal excise tax, at September 2026 rates, or $8,500–$12,000 for a same-day round trip. Short legs rarely cost proportionally less, because daily minimums and crew duty apply whatever the distance. Where the aircraft is based matters more than the route itself: an aircraft already in Michigan avoids positioning legs that would otherwise be a large share of the price. Race weekend and Big Ten championship weekend price as demand rather than distance, so the same aircraft costs more then than on an ordinary Tuesday.
Which airport should I fly from in Michigan?
Oakland County International (PTK) in Pontiac is the default for most of Southeast Michigan — the second busiest airport in the state, no airline terminal, and customs on the field. Willow Run and Detroit Metro both work, and Bishop International in Flint suits anyone north or west of the metro. The right answer is usually whichever is closest to your door.
Can I fly into a smaller airport near Indianapolis?
Often, and it is worth asking. Alternatives on this route include Indianapolis Executive (TYQ), Indianapolis Regional (MQJ), Eagle Creek (EYE). The constraint is runway length and the aircraft’s performance on the day. Give us the address you are actually going to rather than the airport you assume you need.
Do you arrange Indianapolis to Detroit as well?
Yes. We arrange Indianapolis to Detroit and Indianapolis to Pontiac exactly as readily as the outbound, and you do not need to be in Michigan to book it. Repositioning flights show up in both directions, since an aircraft that brought someone out has to get home. Send both directions and we will price the round trip against two one-ways, which frequently costs less per hour.
Who operates the flight?
An FAA-certificated Part 135 air carrier. YAJ Jet Charter is an air charter broker — not a direct air carrier, and not in operational control of any aircraft. The operating carrier is named to you, with its certificate and insurance verified, before you sign anything.
